Aviation chatter - For ALL Pilots and Aviation Enthusiasts
I am looking for high quality VFR 1:50 000 or 1:250 000 maps for south africa in electronic format, typically in a JPG/GIF/TIFF format.
If you have a map or know of someone that sells these maps, please let me know.
Dept of surveying in CT. Whole country 1:50K, 1:150K, 1:500 aviation and 1:1000K aviation on DVD's for around R600 IIRC...
Thanks for the reply George, but that info is too cryptic.
Do you know which government department to speak to or perhaps by chance have contact details?

If you pop into the Dept of Surveys in Cape Town (Mowbray) you can get all the maps on a DVd - I have all 1:50 000, 1:250 000, 1:500 000 and 1:1 000 000.
Else order online or phone them - let me know if you need contact details.
The maps are geotiff so will import well into a mapping ptogram

Site is slow
Chief Directorate: Surveys & Mapping
Private Bag X10, Mowbray 7705. Tel. +27-(0)21-658 4300
(Dept of Land Affairs, Republic of South Africa).
Google is your friend. Service is excellent. Like Chris I have the whole set of 6 DVD's. All the aviation maps fit on 1 DVD
The department of land and survey will sell you a topographical 1:250000 map set on a DVD for R21. Not sure how much the 1:500000 aeronautical maps go for but cannot be too much more.

They don't charge for the electronic maps, just the DVD's and shipping IIRC..
