FS2004 Howard's Mix The FSX Experience

Postby Snoopy » Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:06 pm

You may enjoy this add-on (119MB)

This is an extreme graphics makeover update for FS2004 (freeware), it includes a texture swap program.

Howard's Mix will move your FS2004 into this century with new ground water clouds/sky enhanced environmental files.

All default building have been upgraded. Trees completely redrawn with static birds added. Professional quality installer on main program.

Designed by Howard Smith

I recommend you backup your default scenery texture folder BEFORE installing this...just in case you don't like the changes.

you can get if from flightsim.com or simviation.com...freeware.

Thanks Werner

Have you tried it yet? I am just wondering what effect it will have on my aeroworx scenery!

It will not affect your Aeroworx textures, as it will only change the default scenery-texture set.

You will see that Aeroworx creates its own folders; and have their own separate texture sets...which is not the default FS texture folder....so all it will do is change the textures where Aeroworx uses any of the default FS textures...like water etc....but it won't affect the airport scenery.

I am continually tweaking my default textures to get the right mix...

I'm busy downloading now, better get it quick...saw this on the Avsim forum apparently from Howard himself :quote "I am seriously thinking of removing the legal copies of Howards Mix from the internet" end quote
He has been apparently accused of using some of the software used to make his without permission.
Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed.

Downloaded fine for me, but haven't had chance to install it yet. I do see that it is now also available on Flightsim, so if there is a problem with downloading from Simviation there is now an alternative. :)

Can't wait for the Avsim file library to be back online!

All the best,

Philip.

Has anyone tried this out yet? I installed it lastnight and it's not too bad. Mostly changes the ground textures and clouds from what I can see as well as some other minor things. But still need a decent water and sky set since it doesn't change these files. Admittedly my system is very old and slow, so I did notice a fair drop in FPS when cycling through the different weather options, an there are many to pick.

But I'd be interested to hear any other thoughts on this addon. :)

Just a quick question, besides the texture upgrades, like the new static birds this package adds to FS9,anything else new it adds to FS9 not seen before?

thanks for the brief review Philip :) certainly helps alot to hear other peoples point of view of this add-on.

Just a note - If you add environment or/and water texture add-ons you usually need to send your sliders all the way right to actually see the full effect of the new add-on... it won't always make much change if you are running your water detail on medium.

There are many water add-ons available some good payware one's and some freeware ones but if your system is low spec - chances are you won't see the changes.

Howard's Mix water texture is horrendous brown period! I ran it for a week, had a meltdown and after the reinstall did not bother again. Will install Ground Enviroment Pro again this time.
