Hi All,

I will be flying with FlySafair for the first time next week Friday.
What is FlySafairs policy regarding Jumpseat?
I will take my License with and be dressed in my uniform.
My Flight number is FA727 departing FAOR at 20:35.
Thank you in advance.

What is your uniform, Urie?

It might be better just to be in smart civvies. You don't want to out-rank the captain  :D

Hi Jim,

Just wanted to wear pilot shirt with no bars on.
Maybe smart civvies is a better option.

Does anyone know what the Flysafair Cockpit policy is? I'm flying tonight.

Don't have a pilots licence though. Will have to do the pleading thing [-o<

 Helihead, you are going to raise some blood pressures here. :D

If I wing it at least my love of aviation means I can have a fairly decent conversation with a pilot. :D

So it's great blabbing along on this thread, but has anyone actually managed to get any response/jumpseat from requests here? Please share you experiences.

Boettie ...... #-o
You know as well as anyone on this forum that it is the Captain's discretion - and that some airlines frown upon a too liberal access to flight deck or jump-seat policy.
So - whatever the experiences of Avcommer's with respect to this request thread would be ...... I doubt whether they are silly enough to share that on an open and public forum ....... :? .

Boettie,

I will react to your sarcasm / cynicism and bad manners - one last time ..... and then I am done with this....
I have no idea who short-changed you in life - or where your anger and resentment comes from .... nor do I have the faintest interest ...
I hope you can control it whilst you fly - and if you carry passengers - I hope they are not dear to you....

Avcom is about sharing experiences - and trying to communicate on a level playing field with people that have various levels of expertise and experience in the aviation world. I find it entertaining and sometimes learn from it - despite being involved in aviation for over 45 years ..... It is an evolving industry and those technological advances sometimes leave gaps..... and forums like this make it possible to share .....
It is people that are always negative - jibe at others and react to posts with cynicism and bad manners that make it hard going sometimes...... but as with day to day life - it becomes a matter of simply ignoring them ....they are not worth your time ...... and life goes on ..... [-(

Nice comeback.... Whatever you opinion is, I still want to know where you get the idea from that it is Captain's discretion to carry a jumpseat pax? And why the attack on my human being? I want to know from you, where are you going to get a jumpseat on an airliner?

If you go to the start of the thread, you will see a discussion on which airlines allow the captain discretion in this regard - and you will see that most of the requests are for these particular airlines.

Although I have never tried this thread, I have been given the jump seat every time I asked (and once when I didn't ask, but the captain saw my name on the manifest).

Absolutely, I agree. As far as I know, guys like FlySafair, Airlink do hand out jumpseats. I had many jumpseaters while I was still at a South African airline, even ex-students.

The point I am trying to make is, that at 80% of companies these days it is completely taken out of the Commanders hands and there is a policy.

So hence my question. Has any one managed? And if they did, why not say so if it is legal on the airline they flew with?
