Watched a Netflix movie "Holiday in the wild" last night. Featured ZS-MIA.

Eisch but that is a horrid movie, cliché hell with tired acting and a patronising view of Africa. Like a poor mans out of Africa. Wife made me watch it, honest gov.
The older I get, the more I am convinced that "A Confederacy of Dunces" is non fiction.

Not sure if this has been posted before but here is "Piece of Cake" - Based on Derek Robinson's Novel of Hornet Squadron in WW2. Good 5 hours of binge watching, 6 episodes.

I live in the Caribbean. The video may be "blocked" in SA perhaps because of licencing laws?

This is the link of how I get to it - archive.org/details/PieceOfCake_201704.

If you google about you will find the videos.
Here is a link for an episode. There are 6X 50minute episodes

Here is another link that may work in SA

Just been watching this "docudrama" on YT. Rather good, lengthy, detailed and rather shocking to see the lengths people will go to deny responsibility.

I remember the incident well but have never known the full details described, of a major tax-up by the company, the attempted cover-up and their determination to scapegoat the pilot.

The "white-out" phenomenon is known today. There is a similar phenomenon which took the lives of two friends in Mpumulanga many years ago. The cause of them flying into the side of a hill on a VFR but hazy day was similar - after a private investigation we called it a "blue-out" where the hazy blue sky blends seamlessly into the hazy blue landscape. Not that CAA accepted this private investigation - they still think two experienced pilots up front of the Grumman Tiger AA5B just flew full tilt into hill!

"On the 28th November 1979 Air New Zealand flight TE901 while on a sightseeing day flight to Antarctica, impacted the slopes of Mount Erebus. All 257 passengers and crew were lost. This is the story of the "Royal Commission of Enquiry" held in 1980, presided over by Justice Peter Mahon and his personal fight to find the truth.

Starring (the late) Frank Findlay as Justice Peter Mahon - Roy Billings as Capt. Gordon Vette - Ian Mune as Morrie Davis - and a fine cast of top Australian, UK and New Zealand actors."

Flight of the Intruder (1991)

2020-02-21 Currently available on DSTV Catchup.

Lieutenant Jake "Cool Hand" Grafton (Brad Johnson) and his bombardier/navigator and best friend Lieutenant Morgan "Morg" McPherson (Christopher Rich) are flying a Grumman A-6 Intruder during the Vietnam War over the Gulf of Tonkin towards North Vietnam. They hit their target, a 'suspected truck park', which actually turns out to be trees. On the return to carrier, Morg is fatally shot in the neck by an armed Vietnamese peasant. Landing on the USS Independence with Morg dead, a disturbed Jake, covered in blood, walks into a debriefing with Commander Frank Camparelli (Danny Glover) and Executive Officer, Commander "Cowboy" Parker (J. Kenneth Campbell). Camparelli tells Jake to put Morgan's death behind him and to write a letter to Sharon, Morg's wife. New pilot Jack Barlow (Jared Chandler), nicknamed "Razor" because of his youthful appearance, is then introduced......

"The Bomber Boys" a series of 4 episodes, with an interesting twist, well made. Young descendants of World War II flight crews undergo the same RCAF training as their grandfathers did in 1941-1942.

Unfortunately there seems to be no way to embed but the movie streams online very well without buffering.

Here is another about drug smugglers using some lovely old vintage multi-engined airplanes. And it is a true story with no violence etc, entertaining to listen to these two Pittsburgh brothers who became marijuana smugglers in the 1970s.

Thanks so much Flysouth - I was just being doff - looking everywhere in the internet except on the page in front of me!

I am particularly enjoying it because that's exactly how I was treated when I joined the RAF at the age of 17.
