It is absolutely a sad state at FAWB. You see grass growing through taxi ways and through concrete in front of the city counsel hangars.

What I realy do not understand is the current access control at the airport. For an access card you need police clearance (R500), induction with some useless info and a waste of time and then you get a card. For those who do not want to do that, just drive through and scan you drivers license. At least there are at least 6 guards at the boom gate to watch the one guy scan licenses

Some days only the driver is scanned, other days all the people in the car are scanned and somedays only the people sitting in front are scanned and back seat no problem. Even if you have never been at the airport, just scan your license and drive on through. Had a car drive up to my plane while taxi and was obviously lost and not sure where to go or how to drive in the airport.
Why pay for access cards if they do not add any value? Guess they feel the same about runway lights and figure it is not too important and maybe a driver lost will illuminate the runway for landing aircraft at night

I know Giovanni's son Christian (from the restaurant) is on the committee, how about contacting him about these problems. He is not a pilot but is very enthusiastic about the airport and the family invested a lot of money there. Maybe he can drive an initiative to revamp the airport? :?

Just a thought.

Christian and many of us on the airport are members of WAIG (Wonderboom Airport Interest Group). WAIG has really been trying for a while to engage management and bring about change for the good, but without much success, not for lack of trying.

Do you think it is a local airport management problem or a Tshwane council problem?

It sounds like a typical African problem...

What do the flight schools and Pretoria Skydiving club do about fuel?

Especially the skydiving club.

Wannafly and Skeerpoort are bringing trucks on site and fill the planes. Price is also better than what airport charges in the odd occasions that they have fuel
