Asking for a friend, which Drakensburg strips with overnight facilities will you recommend?

Re: Drakensburg Strips with accommodation?
I was at dragons peak around a year ago, facilities are very close by, and strip was in fairly good condition. Otherwise el mirador Is great, a lot easier than dragons peak, champagne sports is close but, they can transfer.

There is a strip at Montusi as far as I recall but it may be a fire strip?

Re: Drakensburg Strips with accommodation?
We have a few strips in the Southern Berg.
Himeville. Most accommodation places will come fetch you from the strip.
Lake Naverone has a strip.
A mate of mine has self catering accommodation on his farm just outside of Himeville. You can look for it on Facebook "House at Gelngariff" or contact him directly here on Avcom - Sumbloke.

Re: Drakensburg Strips with accommodation?
Hi Neville,
Rather avoid Dragon Peaks strip unless you’re very experienced st short strip landing and takeoff. The approach is tricky and not for the feint hearted!
El Mirador is a respectable strip but with a bit of a hump in the middle which can be difficult in an aircraft requiring a high speed approach and departure.contact is (not sure it still is) Martin Scharf at

Re: Drakensburg Strips with accommodation?
I measure 400m at Dragon Peak usable. Taylor craft requires 150-180m to land and 200m for take off. This sounds like a must do...Hop Harrigan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 11:25 pmHi Neville,

Re: Drakensburg Strips with accommodation?
Dragons peak is amazing, as mentioned it is very tricky. This time of the year keep an eye on the wind, can make the approach increadibly rough with lots of shear. Dragons peak resort is pretty average, the setting is stunning, the actual resort comfortable. It’s walking distance from the strip, baboons May escort youNeville Ferreira wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 2:51 amI measure 400m at Dragon Peak usable. Somehow, I thinkthat the Talylorcraft will do just fine. And after the recent prop upgrade to metal from wood will be a breeze.
Dragon Peaks is great Neville, its a breeze for you and you will enjoy !

We have plenty of Flyfishing in the Himeville Underberg area if that’s what you after. The farm I mentioned (Sumbloke) has a dam stocked with trout and is also managed through The Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Club.
