ZU-MGM Taylorcraft Plus D

Unread post by Auster1 » Fri May 08, 2015 10:11 am

Hi Guys.
The Taylorcraft design spawned another breed of aircraft that went on to serve in every conflict that Britain was involved in from the 2ndWW to Korea.
The Auster Aircraft Company was originally called "Taylorcraft England" and was begun producing the Taylorcraft Model C under licence in Rearsby, England.
The name Auster Mk1 was named after a light Roman wind ( remember Hurricane, Typhoon, Tempest, Whirlwind, etc ???) and was a derivative of the Model C, which became the 'D'.
On entry into the RAF the name Auster was used, and the company later changed its name to that. Subsequently Auster was amalgamated with Miles Aircraft and became BEAGLE.
