Local Airfield simulations

Unread post by ffuls » Mon Jul 01, 2019 1:01 pm

Hi guys,
This is my first attempt at posting something here. Please guide me in the right direction if I miss-posted.

We did a 3D model, with simulation of Warburton Airfield's runway 35 using drones. Note this is a demo only and should be treated as such.
(We do have an ROC with right words on the Ops Spec, land owner permissions, etc)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_zm3KLrFdU&t=5s

I anticipate this has value when a pilot flies to an unfamiliar airfield and for new pilots. I hope it can improve safety and reduce aviation stress.

We can also do runway cross sections, aerial orthophotos to scale, properly annotated, and provide a static model that you can move around in with 3D goggles (virtual tour) or on your PC/phone.

Is this something that is of value to manned aviation?
Would you like to see more of this?

How many airfields do you have planned? We could add these simulations to the Airporfolio.
Don’t take things for granted… Tomorrow is not promised.

At the moment we are testing the metaphorical weather.
We would love to do this for all airfields in RSA from FAOR to the smallest if we can get the funding.

  good luck getting permission flying a drone in FAOR airspace

Looks cool though
Due to the price increase in ammunition, do not expect a warning shot.

Sig Sauer, kinda like Glock except for men.

Thank Christo,
We have the ROC, and with controlled airspace permission on our ops spec, and a lot of red tape it can be done.
Flying in FAOR airspace with a drone has already been done legally, we will not be the first. We will however be the first flying directly over its runways and approach lines. It will take a special amount of logistics and planning.

Not so long ago folks believed no sward flying of drones will ever happen legally in RSA. Then ABSA & Intel proved them wrong.

That being said, FAOR will definately not be first on the list!!

We intend covering small airfields in uncontrolled airspace first, then move to the small controlled aerodromes, and lastly attempt the big boys.

All this if the project is viable.
For it to be viable the following must happen:
i. Pilots must want it.
ii. Someone must pay for it.
iii. Aerodrome Managers (and/or ATNS must give permission for each site)
There is a hectic amount of work that goes into creating the models - the drone flying is no more than 30% of the work (except for FAOR where flight planning & permissions will be 85% of the work!).

The more pilots that like the video and comment, the better chance it will happen :D

to be determined. Where would you like to see it?
