50hrs instruction x R250 = R12500 + R2000 =R14500 - tax = roughly R10 000 - R11500 ............................................

i sure hope your little instructors get to fly closer to 100 hrs a month....

IMHO a South African Breweries truck driver earns more per hour I think but I stand corrected

Uffffff. That's about $700-800 USD/month net?

Just out of curiosity; in SA what is the cost to go from 0 hours to PPL, IR, CPL (SE and ME) and flight instructor?

Been out of instruction for some time...but it cost me roughly R460K to get my CPL, M/E and Instructors in 2010. That was through a standard everyday flight school (I achieved PPL at 45hrs and CPL at 200hrs so no extra) nothing in the likes of certain schools in the South/East coast areas of SA that cost much more.

Can imagine that has almost gone up by 40% now! Never mind the costs of an initial Twin Turbine/MCC rating, ATPL exams, Grd II initial and an ATPL Test eventually.

- Twin Turbine (1300 PIC, 650 on Medium Cat A/C)
- Instructor II

Both roles are in the transportation sector

Both roles take responsibilities for equipment of similar value

Quite relevant

Remuneration vs training cost per hour is also similar

Did a quick google and pays similarly per hour for a truck instructor

Looks like trucking are losing also

250 an hour is far higher than the industry standard for a gr3. 100 hours of ab initio instruction flying a month is not recommended.

Should be double

1000hrs annual limit at R250
R200 668 after tax excl other deductibles
R16 722,33 per month

Actually R200.66 ph

No wonder there aren’t enough instructors

Guys before we criticize the post, everyone needs to start at the bottom. This should be ideal for a youngster living with his parents earning some pocket money for hours and experience. The instructor route is a stepping stone into the bigger aviation industry and can make you more money a decade later?

If you are doing it for the money, you should’ve done your research before hand and rather invested your time and effort into a proper degree at proper university or started a business with 500k if your in it for the money, seriously some other entry level jobs offers double the salary from a university.

Why would you invest your money into something before reading up on it?

Because some people's parents told them that they deserve everything, and as a result they have entitlement issues.
