What did you do with your Laser Cutter today?

Unread post by Seank » Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:18 pm

Okay, so as the subject line goes, What did you do with your Laser Cutter today? Well not very much since Just got it going. I bought 1000x600 100w laser cutter, garage didn't seem complete with more tools. so the Collection grows CNC Router, CNC Foam Cutter, Vinyl Cutter and now a Laser Cutter. Oh and two 3D printers.

I decided to have some fun and for the first aircraft kit I am going to make I am going to do a LimiEx Glider, since Avcom is such a great place and I haven't spent much time in the last year or so here.... and all the build threads seem to be drying up except for Chris & Byron, Theuns and Brendon all of who seems to have way more time then the rest of us.

Here is the deal, I will cut a complete LimitEx kit 565mm wingspan, Decals and will ship it for free... but there is a catch...

Question what is it worth to you?
I reckon I will auction the kit off and the proceeds of which goes to Avcom for the running of the site. You don't pay me, if this auction works and I like I said will ship it to you for free.

What else must you Do, Well write build thread for the plan... And that within 2 months of taking delivery of the kit.

Then Why the LimitEx you may ask, well few years ago, while helping a fellow modeller friend to find my Glider he was flying I lost sight of my own Glider and it crashed in to the side of the unforgiving Hermanus Cliff, so I decided it was time to build another one. I will aslo be building giant one where I double the size and increase the wing to 900mm. This thing flies legit and is quick...

Pplan have been drawn, i will now do the layout for the cutting and then we are ready to cut

Okay so finished drawing the entire kit, going to try cutting it the weekend. There is no holding tabes in the drawing. I figure I will add them afterwards

First Test cuts and parts made this evening. I am super happy with the results. Cutting speeds vs my cnc router it too 4 minutes to cut and engrave, this vs 40 minutes to cut on CNC router. Results look awesome

Prototype has been built, and for the first one it's perfect, I still need to cut the 3mm ply t-nut support for wing mounting bolt. But it took 2hours and 30 minutes to build it to this stage. Things that need to be done still are torque rods, and sanding.
