Unread post by Flymed » Fri Nov 01, 2013 3:38 pm

SAAsMA has launched its new website for both their medical members and for the aviation industry at large to facilitate the answering and resolving of aviation medical questions and problems where possible. This is a new concept in the world where interaction between the aviation medical professional and the client are being promoted.

You are welcome to use it to post your medical related questions and we endeavour to help with the answers. Your aviation medical doctor can, if he/she is a member, have full access to all the info crucial in the handling of your medical examination and much more, on this site. SAAsMA works closely with the aviation industry to help with matters medical. If your doctor is not a member of SAAsMA convince him to become a member for your sake! There is no other body in Southern Africa that can assist you with avmed problems. SAAsMA is there to advance aviation.
As the site is new please bear with us if any gremlins do pop up; better still, let me know!

You are invited to use www.saasma.org to help yourself and others with medically related issues.

Hope you will find it useful.

Nicely done Chris. Three topics to kick off your forum.

1. Colour deficiency and the GA pilot.
2. Ground to air lasers and physiological damage.
3. Ground to air lasers and psychological factors.

Well done on this initiative. As one gets older, we need all the "friends" we can muster to educate ourselves, information so we do the right things right and forge alliances against entities whose "frivolous stroke of the pen" can have and does have a lasting impact on our lives.

Thanks Horace
If the community can support it by posting their questions, concerns and experiences on the SAAsMA website, we will get the aviation medical industry involved by necessity, because if they are not involved they will eventually not be in a position to help their patients.

SAAsMA is having its biennial medical conference from 25 - 27 July 2014 in Sandton at Netcare's conference centre. Those who are aviation medically, psychologically interested should have a look at our brochure on www.saasma.org . We are trying to rekindle proper and worldclass aeromedical standards in Southern Africa, and we need the broadest possible base of medical professionals as well as aviation minded people with vested interest in Aerospace medicine to attend and become part of the solution, and to benefit aviation both in the short and long term.

I want to see all of you there. Did you know that medical standards are being compiled at the moment for UAV drivers? Will this spill over to the modelplane flyers? Don't know. Nor do I. But if aviation medicine is to be continued with the apathy evident at the moment, there are nasty surprises awaiting all of us. Get involved and support our effort!

With anticipation and hopeful of your overwhelming response

This past weekend Dr Kobus Kotze took over from me as president of SAAsMA at our biennial conference. He is known as Seneca on AVCOM. Congratulations Kobus!
The conference was attended also by Henk in da bush, Agpilot and Vintageflyer. I believe we have set a course to the absolute benefit of every aviation minded person in Southern Africa.

Support us if you want your medical to be fair and transparent. SAAsMA can and will give that to you, but only if you support us by seeing our members. We are no longer the little player on the side field and would love to take you along on our journey of creating world standard aviation medicine in Africa.

Thank you for all the support I had from some of you in the past years. It was truly appreciated!

Thank You PJL. Now I can move a little more into the background and hopefully do more there without running the risk of harming SAAsMA. Kobus' diplomatic skills is by far better than mine!

The Southern African Aerospace

Medical Association

Biennial Conference: 27 – 29 July 2018

Netcare Conference Centre, Sandton

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Special Offer: Drastic Reduction in SAAsMA Biennial Conference and Membership Fees

Full conference fee and 2 years of SAAsMA membership (to the next biennial conference in July 2020): Reduced from R6500 to R4000 if paid on or before the 21st of July 2018

Single day conference attendance fee and 2 years of SAAsMA membership (to the next biennial conference in July 2020): Reduced from R4000 to R3000 if paid on or before the 21st of July 2018

Note that these fees include one ticket to the Gala Dinner. Additional tickets for partners or friends are R450 pp.

The first detailed conference brochure was emailed to all of you on the 9th of May 2018. Since then some minor changes have been made to the programme. More importantly, after careful consideration by the SAAsMA Exco, we are pleased to inform you that the fees for the biennial conference and SAAsMA membership (for two years) have been drastically reduced provided that these fees are paid on or before the 21st of July.

This is due to two very important considerations:
a. SAAsMA’s relatively strong financial position as well as careful planning and cost cutting for this year’s biennial conference (27th to 29th July 2018).
b. The implementation of the EMPIC System will be discussed and we want maximum participation and input from all DAMEs

SAAsMA needs you and you need SAAsMA

SAAsMA President: Dr Rudi Britz
