Blood Test with annual medical

Unread post by Popeye » Thu Nov 07, 2019 9:03 am

Good day all

My AME advised me that there is a new requirement that blood needs to be taken during the annual medical to check hemoglobin or something.

Can someone confirm this? And where in the CAA documents or regulations can I go look to see what the annual medical requirements are?

Thanks in advance.

Send Flymed here on the forum a pm or an e-mail. He does this every day and will most likely respond with the correct info.

Under the UK CAA they require a haemoglobin test and a Lipids/Cholesterol test. The sample is taken with a pin prick sampler.

Being under an effective privacy law the UK laboratory is expected to destroy the sample after the test and not to do any other tests on the sample. In SA our mileage may vary on this last point...

For example a curious CAA could use the sample for a liver function test which under other jurisdictions would not be allowed without a good reason. Just testing for anything they can think of at a licence medical is unethical at best and may be illegal at worst.

Is this linked to a specific age and class applied for, or is it across the board?
