Good day. I am not sure if it can be upgraded to IO-320, as it is still type certified.

Used to own a share in DEH back in the early 90s (after selling my car to buy it), it was red and white back then - I could tell you some stories...

Panel looks identical to what it was back then (although I think it used to have an ancient AH)

We bought the aircraft from the Pietersburg flying Club after it was groundlooped (for R120 000 with a half life engine, supposedly). Prior to that the aircraft was owned by a professional hunter up in Zim - forget his name but I met him up in Kariba and he had his share of adventure stories. When ZANU PF took over in Rhodesia they confiscated the prop of the aircraft and the log books - he spent years fighting to get them returned, which they eventually were but the engine logs were missing. The plane was bought by the Pietersburg flying club and imported into SA. We sold it to Rob Taylor who used it to teach his son Hylton to fly.

Got my PPL on the aircraft and have many happy memories (and some not so happy ones involving AMOs and the DCA) - our first MPI took a year and resulted in the AMO that rebuilt the wing after the last groundloop, Classic Air at Wonderboom, having its licence pulled. The most serious of a multitude of defects that included amongst others an uncorrected bent spar, no uv protection for the covering and the use of commercial pop rivets in the aileron, was the routing of the aileron cable: instead of running in a straight line to the aileron pulley, it passed around the fabric stabbing (stitches) and was on the verge of letting go, probably resulting in the loss of or impaired aileron control. I have photos somewhere of the cable bending around the severely frayed stitch.

Eventually the wing was removed from the aircraft and trucked to Wonderboom where it was stripped again and the defects repaired by Classic air (although they couldn't sign it out). The wing was then trucked back to Aero Air at Rand who were doing the MPI . The aircraft was inspected by the DCA inspector prior to the reissue of the CofA and he wasn't happy with the other wing! Turns out this wing was rebuilt in the past by Aero Skills, which changed name at some point to Aero Air - just a coincidence that they were doing the MPI! So that wing had to come off as well... At some point in this this whole process the DCA inspector "the old man" as he was know at the DCA, took our aileron as evidence and then promptly suffered a heart attack.

Anyway after a year of fighting with AMOs we eventually got the aeroplane back - I remember the one wing was slightly pink in colour since they had sprayed the white top coat over a red undercoat. You can rest assured the wings on this aircraft are sound since they were rebuilt under the careful scrutiny of the ‘old man’ at the DCA who was threatening to pull more AMO licences!

Loved that plane, almost tempted to buy it back - she looks smart in her new yellow outfit.

As far as I recall it was a 1951 model ???

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.
