Where does one start aerobatic flying in Cape Town?

Unread post by Blink-_- » Sat May 12, 2018 8:38 pm

Hi there!

I've been crawling around on this forum for a bit and have noticed that many people recommend a pilot to at least do a "few hours" of aerobatic piloting, to "broaden their flying abilities" and just make them better pilots.

Only problem is, I have no idea where to start. No flight school around here seems to advertise aerobatic flying, unless I missed something. I'm not planning on organising anything yet I really just want a quote of the costs and a place to go to do the training.

I'm also interested in learning more about War birds, it has something to do with war and flying but I'm not sure about the basics or where to go to fly them; I'd love to fly a Spitfire one day!

Appreciate any comments and answers, good day to you all!

Very few schools teach aerobatics. I know of only one in Vereeniging and one in Brakpan.

Best bet is to look on www.aerobatics.co.za calendar and hope the calender gets updated if they change the date and or venue.
This years competition in Swellendam is over, but maybe you can go to Tempe next weekend.
Unless someone will contact you via this thread before then.

Go to a competition when in your area and speak to the pilots. They will be too happy to assist. They will normally teach you in their free time for free if you have your own aircraft and come to arrangement in sharing costs if their aircraft.

They have a book on how to take my money away? When did this happen......

Make contact with Ivan van der Schaar, Sardyn here on Avcom. He owns a aerobatic flying school @ Brakpan airfield. I'm definitely planning on going there one day

AFAIK, "Sardyn" is a "she"...

[EDIT] I think I might have mistaken "Sardine" for "Sardyn"... now I am confused...

It is Sardyn

Or contact Neville Ferreira who is always very helpful. He will know the aero pilots in Cape Town area.

Please share contact info if you find any.

I'm especially interested on receiving instruction on a YAK 52.
