Pulmonary Embolism after breaking a hip due to a fall:

He was one of my instructors at Grand Central back in the 70's and we remained friends. I hadn't heard from him for a while so contacted his brother who gave me the news.

I don't visit Avcom very often and so I am especially saddened to see this notice of the death of Peter Marais.
He was a slightly eccentric character at the flight school at FAGC, back in the days of Harold Levin. His aviation knowledge seemed vast and his understanding of aerodynamics was, at least to me, truly awesome.
He was a meticulous instructor who believed in the pre flight and post flight briefing processes and always repaid an aviation question with a proper and well structured answer, which usually, as I remember, would start with: "Let me put it this way....'
Thank you Peter for being part of my aviation career.
