Arrie de Klerk
I received a message this morning to say that Capt Arrie de Klerk, ex chairman of the Harvard Club, passed away yesterday after a short illness.
Old age & treachery will triumph over youth & skill

Arrie De Klerk as he was known passed away this morning at 06h45. Arrie had the foresight to preserve the Harvard aircraft that the general public so loved and also to make it possible that the general public could undertake a flight in the Harvard. Until then only pilots undergoing training flew in the Harvard. Arrie founded the Harvard Club of SA and also had the 10 Harvard's that were transferred to the Harvard Club, registered as National Treasure's with the SAHRA ( South African Heritage Resource Agency) previously known as the National Monuments Council.
Arrie was a driving force that also revitalised the Silver Queen Air Rally, an event to mark the first flight from London to Cape Town in 1920.
