Sandro Strimer

Unread post by jvg075 » Sun Aug 29, 2021 10:11 pm

Hi folks,
I learnt today that Sandro passed away this morning. Personally a great loss > he designed and built some innovative photographic equipment for intricate forensic challenges and was one of the best technical problem solving people I was privileged to work with. May he rest in peace.

Great guy, met him 2007 when he was restoring a Helio Courier in a hangar on the airport. Enjoyed visiting him to see the Duke that he was converting to a single turbine (developing an STC). May he rest in peace.

RIP.
Quite a legend that has passed away. I dealt with him quite a bit when I used to own the Robin. He was the only one able to sign it out on maintenance and also the only guy that was able to make new brake disks for the Robin.

It was too early! Sandro still helped me with a new battery in May this year, he still needed to do the logbook entry! I know there were a lot of things, projects he still wanted to do or complete, aviators who needed his help and guidance. He was one of those people who thought and solved faster than earthly beings could keep up with. He was sometimes difficult to get hold of, he was always busy helping some-one. When you eventually got hold of him, he was more than enthusiastic to get going with a new project with you, so there were never enough time...!

His passing is a huge loss to all who knew him, but to SA general aviation especially, and even more so to the Socata owners in SA.

He will be dearly missed and he leaves a gaping hole!

P.S. Sandro, nou is daar baie tyd, vlieg hoog!

Ref The Passing of Sandro Strimer,
I felt moved to "give Credit where due", as the saying goes. Like "Fly Piper" I have known Sandro for ages and concur with previous posts who have proclaimed him to have been like "United Building Society - The Biggest Helping Hand in The Land " - except that Sandro outlived United ?

Hence he will be missed by Family, Friends, Customers and the Aviation Industry alike !!

RIP Friend.

Typo, met him in 1984. He did quite a few sign outs for me on aircraft that others could not. Scats, his partner for many years, retired in the George area and I last saw him about 20 years ago.
