Tips & Tricks #2: PMs (Private Messages)

Unread post by Roger » Fri Jan 08, 2016 9:54 am

How do I get to my PMs?
Look to the top right hand side of the forum, and click on the envelope found on the 'Navbar' as indicated in the below picture.

How do I PM a member directly from their post?
Click on the dots (...) next to the word 'Contact'. This will expand into a graphic showing a bubble and an envelope. You can hover over each graphic to see what it does. The bubble will start the PM process, and the envelope will allow you to send an e-mail to the member.

Worthwile mention:
Message does not leave my Outbox! (this is not a new feature - has always existed.)
When you send a PM, it will stay in your outbox until the recipient opens your message. At that stage, the message will then move to your sent items folder, ie Outbox = still unread by recipient.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

If you don't want email (or PM's for that matter) you can change your personal settings by clicking on the "person" icon next to the PM icon..

Really liking the new version, especially on mobile devices.
However, when on a mobile device (Samsung), how does one PM from directly in a post which displays limited user info (i.e. no "contact ...")?

Good question Markus. The answer is that on mobile, with limited viewing space, some items that are available on desktop, may be missing on mobile.

Later when things have settled, will see if it will be worthwhile to drop some other item and rather bring the 'PM from post' option onto mobile.

None of my messages are going through. They all sitting in outbox. Any reason?

...will there come an option, in time, to add a picture to a pm as well?

The ability is already there, we just have not activated it. How many would find that helpful?
