Embedded Youtube dissapear'd on Avcom only

Unread post by Snitch » Thu Nov 10, 2016 2:22 pm

Maybe one of the cleverer members can help.

Suddenly I cannot see embedded YouTube videos on Avcom.
It still works for every other forum and YouTube itself.
But on only Avcom its just a blank area where the video should be.

Tried clearing Cache and history.
Browsers updated to latest versions
Flash, Java etc have been updated.
Cant see anything under profile settings.

Its a Avcom only problem.
Any updates to the board software in the last week or so ?

It does work on mobile though under my profile.

Still works for me (Firefox and W7).
How come every time my ship comes in I'm at the airport?

Still works with me on chrome but then again I switched off auto updates for Chrome a long time ago. Maybe an update that broke things.

Longshot: Any chance that your browsers are using different proxy settings?

No.

Its quite strange.
Had a page with embedded videos open and when I refreshed it the next morning the videos disappeared.
From then on nothing on Avcom, but only Avcom.
No other forums see to have the problem, even random ones.

Wondering if it has something to do with shockwave in Chrome ?
This is what I get when inspecting a thread with video with developers tools.

I get the correct, automatic, phpbb page shockwave-flash object conversion to HTML5 (Chrome ver 54.0.2840.99 m):

<div class="html5-video-player remote-created unstarted-mode ytp-hide-controls ytp-small-mode" tabindex="-1" id="player_uid_539339251_1" data-version="//s.ytimg.com/yts/jsbin/player-en_GB-vflpytEgr/base.js" aria-label="YouTube Video Player"><div class="html5-video-container" data-layer="0"><video tabindex="-1" class="video-stream html5-main-video" style="width: 425px; height: 350px; left: 0px; top: -350px;"></video></div>

So in your case, could be *any* number or combo of things, but check your browser extensions & plugins, using urls:
chrome://extensions
and:
chrome://plugins

as something there could be interfering with YouTube's HTML5 rendering (disable "Native Client" and "Adobe Flash Player" plugins to see if this makes a diff)

You can confirm HTML5 interoperability with: https://html5test.com

Bingo
Disabling Native Client returns the videos immediately.

Wonder why.
Tested this on 5 computers, 3 run fine, 2 had this problem. The 1 other one with this is not a Avcom reader or member.

Nothing has changed on our side, so not sure what or why? Maybe a change on youtube? Is the placeholder still visible?

<<edit>>Have found some info on a deprecated embed function on the youtube side. Will have to see if I can find a way forward. Sadly with these type of changes, will most likely not fix the existing embedded videos.
