Using the classifieds - one on one approach

Unread post by flying » Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:02 pm

Over the past few years, we have witnessed some that say that they do not enjoy advertising on AvCom as they do not want discussions about the items they are selling or are often shy about discussing it in open forum and prefer the one on one approach.

We have introduced a new feature for you, where if you choose - you may now lock your own advertisments. Clearly this will result possibly in more PM traffic between potential purchasers, so does have it's pitfalls.

To use the feature - only once you have posted/submitted the advert - click on the topic as you would any other topic, and down in the left hand bottom of the page you will see a 'Lock Topic' option. This will only work if you are the creator of the advert. You should also be able to lock the advert at any time, even if you originally allowed responses to the advert.

This feature is also enabled on the model classified section.

PS - Please remember the classifieds are for private sales only. Commercial operations can mail ads@avcom.co.za for a Commercial listing section.
Since 2003.

Great feature, thanks!! :D :D

Too many people on Avcom with too many opinions on what is being sold without the slightest interest in purchasing   ... can only put off potential buyers!

Seems you can't edit once you locked it. Or is there a way around?

Good thing tx. What bothers me most is things being sold and not recorded as such (I am also guilty  )- Can an advert be so programmed to delete itself after a month - and no bumping allowed. Some are so selfish, they keep on bumping their stuff to the top, within two days , your post is 3 pages back. As a rule only one bump per month or a new advert when it is removed.
Can this page be devided in sub categories:
Airframes & complete planes
Helicopters
Motors only
Electrics and electronics only - including radio sets
Miscellaneous
(Futaba only    )

Regards
Toby

Can I suggest something else to think about as well?

We seem to get a lot of people that simply register and on their first post put something in the for sale section. More often than not they give sketchy info and no pictures of what is being sold. Any request for further details or pictures very often falls on deaf ears.

Isn't that what junkmail/olx and gumtree is for?

Can we not prohibit posting in these threads if the poster has say less than 10/20/50(whatever) posts?

If you have locked your advert and later wish to unlock it to make some changes, then PM one of the mods who will unlock it for you. You can then make your changes and lock it again.

I'd like to suggest a Template to be created and posted in a seperate Sticky post which sellers of aircraft should use.
List aircraft, instruments, indicative price, year, where based, etc, etc, etc.
.
Don't believe what I post, research what I post....
