Flex plate. Cut out the ring gear and hub from the original flywheel and fitted it to a 7075 web.

The starter motor is fitted through the firewall from the inside. I cut a "flat, wide, funnel shaped" hole in the firewall after carefully measuring the position of the starter with the engine fitted to the firewall. The starter motor was then bedded into the firewall with epoxy glue and woven fiberglass. Much as you would bed a rifle action into the stock. The "nose" of the starter motor thus fits into the firewall with absolutely no play. The two holes of the starter motor flange is 12.5mm. I will ream it out to 1/2" and fasten it with tight fitting AN bolts. That should ensure the starter motor doesn't move or turn under torque.

Ja, die kamer is so te sê klaar. Dit was vir my oudste dogtertjie.

Dis altyd goeie motivering.

Bosvark - I am the proud owner of a VP1 in "kit" form right now. I am new to building full sized airplanes, and am so excited about this I can hardly sleep!
I am not sure what motor I am going to put in her, but I am leaning towards the original. Rotax is an option, but I am not a fan.
I have a bunch of Cadets who are going to help build it, and am a member of EAA Ch1345 right here in Bend, Oregon, who have pledged their time and expertise. I also have been offered help from Lancair, as they know we work with the youth.

I really have enjoyed reading this thread - lots of gem in here!

Hallo Mike

I am glad you enjoyed the read. Work commitment and "builder's block" has caused my build and this thread to be badly neglected   I am slowly getting back my enthusiasm and are doing a little bit most nights and weekends.

That "kit" of yours looks mouthwatering! The Rotax powered VP's looks a bit odd with the long engine mount which I suppose is necessary to get the plane balanced but apparently goes like a bat of hell. ( or as close to that as a VP will ever come   ) At least you won't be so susceptible to bird strike. A vulture into a trailing edge can do a lot of damage.

Pls keep us up to date. VP builders are either few and far between or it's the same as having sex with your buddy's fat sister. It's lekker but you don't brag about it .
