Here we go again - RV10 build

Unread post by ibeaton » Sat Jul 04, 2015 5:13 pm

Well the itch returned, and I started to scratch.

So with an empennage kit safely tucked away in the workshop work begins again. Amazingly familiar this time around.

Well that is it for the first instalment.

Build on.

So real work has got in the way a bit, also been flying the Seven, so not much progress to record.

A little bit of Riveting
2015_08_23 Rivet it together.jpg
and here is the result
2015_08_23 Job done.jpg
However here are a few shots of a much improved dimpling mechanism I have developed for doing large skins.

Normally lining the dimple die up with the hole is a pain in the neck, so stuck some LED lights onto the steel bucking board and hey presto, and improvement of 300% in accuracy of finding the dimple die. Simple.

Just shed a little light on the matter and it shines through the drilled hole making it a simple task to line it all up, should work on the DRDT too.

Thanks Jan,

I can see that, the spars are probably as long as the wing of the 7, must say playing with the bits again is rather fun. The manual for the 10 is also a big step forward, a real pleasure to work with.

Vans have really got the process well developed now.

Probably need to pop across and have a cup of coffee and a chat some time.

Yup, quite a bit, have not posted photos too busy flying, but basically vertical stab, rudder, elevators and trim tabs complete except for fiberglass work. Next horizontal stab and then on to tail cone.
