Well done on a great adventure, and thanks for the feedback.
Did you have to fill in a TIP [Temporary Import Permit] for the RV?
The gasolina in outlying areas has been very suspect, especially up North. What precautions did you take against contamination of fuel with water, sediment and alcohol?

I intend bringing my Jodel up to Nacala next year, and am doing a feasibility study to determine whether it really is a good idea.
Thanx Happy Skinner. :D

Ditto, temp import permit was completed at port of entry.
Mogas Precautions are: Go to a big busy garage, check a small sample of fuel, Use own Jerry Cans, Fill via MR Funnel at Garage (see pic above), first only use on one tank during the cruise phase watch for anomolies. For alcohol you can fill your fuel tester with 10 to 20% water, mark it, add fuel, shake and see if water level rises above mark.

I hope that helps?
Great - thanks for that response. =D>

Where did you stay on Inhaca?
Hi Mauler,

on the recommendation from a fellow avcommer we stayed at Ross Ramos, which provides Glamping (Glamourous Camping), they have a tented camp, with excellent facilities, and they are right next to the runway +/- 50m walk. If you are into Glamping and Flying I can recommend it.

Excellent. Some years ago I used to stay at Blue Marlin Charters some 100m or so further down the road from the runway, but it disappeared off the face of the island. This looks like an even better replacement.

Hi Pete, ditto would have been good to see you again, but then again the WX during the Bilene weekend stay was not that great, it improved very much for the remainder of our safari, cause it can't be gloomy and cloudy for 17 days throughout!

Giving back!

RV Flipping: 3 Generations to Rustenburg Fly in

Oom Tiens 77 years old, was a pilot for many years, he bought his personal 182 brand new way back when for R26,000 and then put 1,000 hours on it...He took control for a while, he says the RV is almost as good as his old 182 and he doesn't like all the tv screens :D

In the back his Son and Grandchild.

Yesterday Oom Tiens' son (from the previous post) send me a video he made for them to remember the nostalgic event for Oom Tiens (remember Oom Tiens use to be a Cessna 182 PPL pilot with more than 1,000 hours PPL time, he gave up flying a couple of years back, but still has his runway on his smallholding in Magaliesberg Valley)

I think he captured the Romance of flying and the Rustenberg fly in very well, now they can remember it.

Hope you guys enjoy it too...

Installing Dedicated Auto Pilot Buttons and Dedicated Dials for Altitude, Heading/Track and Barometer.

I installed these already last year, but never got around to post an update to the form. Having these dedicated buttons at your disposal makes pilot workload less, especially IFR.

First I took out my left instrument panel face plate and taped the template for the buttons where to cut. If you look carefully you'll see interference in the top left corner, so i had to cut a bit off the top left corner of the instrument to fit. I was happy to do this, since the panel was not originally designed with these dedicated buttons and dials in mind, so i was happy to compromise and get them in without redoing the entire left panel.

The dedicated modules fitting perfectly:

Installing the panel back into the airplane and daisy chain the Skyview network cable to include the new modules:

Installing the Skyview screen again

Perfect!

I love my RV!

St. Francis, Knysna & Plettenberg Bay

Inspiration for builders, keep pounding those rivets, it is worth it!

Our holiday vlieg masjien took our family during the school holidays from The Coves to St Francis and Pletten Berg Bay.
Man I love this RV10, it is a serious cruise and holiday machine.

Image
Soon after take off, Switch the AP on and sit back and relax for the 3.5 hour trip, while you just monitor and scan.

Image
My Daughter always plays co-pilot while mom sit in the back playing stewardess handing snacks and drinks forward.

Image
The interior countryside is extremely dry, that is until you cross the mountains close to the coast, then beautiful green.

Image
Nice aviation picture turning finals at St. Francis over their little harbor.

Another view, with the airfield in the distance.

Knysna

We never imagined this airplane we built ourselves in our garage will bring us so much pleasure, new places and new experiences.

Keep pounding those rivets...

Kind Regards
