Unread post by Bearcat » Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:45 pm

The recently completed Radial Rocket ZU-IJP has been involved in an accident at Bara-G
Undercarriage ripped off and damaged propeller
I dont know further details but it looks like nobody was hurt other than the plane

A hot ship like that. Why use Baragwaneth? Why not Lanseria, Vereeniging or Rand? #-o

Don't see why Barra is to blame. Pity though.

unknown type for me
so I googled ZU-IJP

on this page: http://www.pilotspost.com/arn0001762

this image
WOW, stunning looking aerie !!

If it can be operated out of Krugersdorp, as seen on the "pilotspost" article, then I don't see why Bara G should be any different

Spare a thought for the test pilot who must be feeling absolutely awful about this. I am very glad there were no injuries.

So does anyone have any specs on this aircraft? Stall speed, wing loading etc?

And what were the conditions at the time of the accident? Wind/weather?

Was this the first flight after it was built?

What engine does it have?

Was it being flown by the builder or a test pilot?

Was it a landing accident, or possibly high speed taxying, or takeoff?

at the moment Highveld winter conditions
no clouds, winds generally light (less than 10kts) , cool temps (max today was 20-ish) possibly a bit of smog haze
cannot vouch for any exact time of incident related conditions

My heart goes out to Derek Frasca. Definitely repairable. Composite Propellar so this may have saved radial engine. Wheels did get knocked off but no other obvious danger. She is a hot ship with small Wing area. I’m told 70 square feet( stand to correction) approach speed landing typically 110 mph
