UK girl jumps to her death from plane

Due to the price increase in ammunition, do not expect a warning shot.

Sig Sauer, kinda like Glock except for men.

Very tragic,

Not exactly easy to push open the door of a highwing Cessna in flight far enough to drop out. There's a lot off wind-pressure. There's a good reason those doors come off when doing sky-dives. Maybe the aircraft was still climbing ?

Picture below from the article and a recreation of the events:

I doubt strongly that paranoia was the cause, more likely a deep rooted depression. Depression can manifest itself in different forms, sometimes it is well hidden by the person suffering of it.

Depression is highly likely but it could also be schizophrenia esp the paranoid variety or any of a myriad of psychiatric problems. Sad there wasn’t a chance to address them. I’ll say one thing- not a bad way to go if going was your intention.

A terrible incident.

One of the theories circulating,is a link between her behavior and anti-malaria medication,which in rare cases can cause some pretty serious mental side-effects.

Also, their wording seems odd - paranoia would lead to anxiety attacks. Her behavior seems more about escalating anxiety.

As a guide and Lodge manager in the Lowveld, Botswana etc (Malaria areas) I experienced and know of a number of incidences when guests displayed bizarre behavior, dillusion, anxiety and paranoia (being eaten by ants in bed at night, partners attacking them....) attributed in the end to Malaria muti.

Quite scary when in the middle of the wilderness... cant image how it would be for the pic and pax..

The culprit here is Mefloquine, one brand name is Lariam. Banned for use by pilots.

Thanks Karl, Lariam is indeed the name I have been warned against.

Very interesting that it is banned for use by pilots - I didn't know that.

I doubt any doctor would prescribe Mefloquine to someone with an admitted psychiatric disorder.

That lariam is bad stuff. Many years ago I did a medevac in Botswana for some poor guy who had done a lot of damage to himself overnight in his tent with a pocket knife. He’d been on lariam for that trip and it seemed to drive him over the edge. I’m surprised it’s still legal.

sudden headache, ringing in your ears, dizziness, loss of balance, or problems with coordination;
severe anxiety, depression;
paranoia, hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not real);
