Who in their right mind would operate a drone so close to a highly active airfield? I wonder what make/model? Is this Orpheus's (RIP) flying school? Who owns it now?

It could only be an idiot who operates a drone close to an airport. He or she should be charged with attempted murder.!!!

Not the first nor the last. Just hope people wake up and realise these have very serious and lethal consequences.
Hope owner is found and appropriate corrective action is taken.
Glad A/C crew are okay.

I fly drones. They are super usefull tools on the farm. Same story as aways. Some idiot will spoil everything for everyone else. Hope they can trace him and prosecute. But I doubt anything will come from this.

This is going to open up a proper can of worms.

I don’t suppose the drone (or whatever is left of it) has been found?

Anyone with an RPAS knows that you may not fly a drone within 10km of an airfield.
Problem is anyone can just go to a store and buy a drone for private use and as long as that is allowed to happen these incidents are unfortunately inevitable. Glad to hear the crew are ok!

I do not fly drones and hate those horrible swarm of bees sound.

BUT.........

Is it confirmed that it was struck on take off near Rand? It would have been flown over part of Alberton/Dinwiddie. What height and distance from Rand?

There is currently security drone/s flying in the area. Yes there is rules etc. for both operating drones and aircraft. Not saying it was not adhered to or anyone being dishonest. Sad to see such damage and risk to aircraft and life.

....uhm I'm not convinced. A drone is a fairly hard object with sharp edges. I would have imagined a few more dents at straight and sharp angles than a rounded curve - just speculating.
