Good day
On my way to Midrand, I see the following recovery process.
Any idea what happened?

Re: Helicopter missed helipad at Ultimate heliport?
What a stupid title. Helicopters don’t miss pads !!!
Engine out on short finals, pilot did unbelievably well.
Rather check your facts before posting !

From that second photo it seems like quite a bit of oil down the side, below the engine.

Re: Helicopter missed helipad at Ultimate heliport?
Apologies for my stupid title, but I honestly had no idea what happened, and being so close to the landing pad, I thought he might have missed it due to strong wind, missed it because of enjin failure, missed it because of fuel starvation.
I had no facts to go on or to check, only a helicopter, short of the pad, being recovered.

Sorry for having a go, but pilots are friends of ours and did unbelievably well to be alive, although pilot is in hospital with serious injuries.MarcelloMaestro wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:31 amApologies for my stupid title, but I honestly had no idea what happened, and being so close to the landing pad, I thought he might have missed it due to strong wind, missed it because of enjin failure, missed it because of fuel starvation.

Technically he missed it notwithstanding the safe assumption that that was his destination.MarcelloMaestro wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:31 amApologies for my stupid title, but I honestly had no idea what happened, and being so close to the landing pad, I thought he might have missed it due to strong wind, missed it because of enjin failure, missed it because of fuel starvation.

Obviously he had a very good reason. Wishing the pilot well. Good job.

Re: Helicopter missed helipad at Ultimate heliport?
Most likely something broke and leaked oil during the obvious very hard landing - the airframe is badly buckled The oil doesn’t seem to have been spread by airflow as would be the case in an in-flight leak. Hope they find lots of fuel in the tank. Wishing the crew a speedy recovery.

Would you like or are you able to share what happened? The aircraft does not seem to be in a bad state and your saying pilots are in a serious condition?E816 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:43 amSorry for having a go, but pilots are friends of ours and did unbelievably well to be alive, although pilot is in hospital with serious injuries.MarcelloMaestro wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:31 amApologies for my stupid title, but I honestly had no idea what happened, and being so close to the landing pad, I thought he might have missed it due to strong wind, missed it because of enjin failure, missed it because of fuel starvation.

The second picture shows the severe damage. You must zoom in.

Not really my place to divulge but can confirm catastrophic engine failure on short finals at about 60ft AGL going into UHP.Peblehead wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 12:45 pmWould you like or are you able to share what happened? Co-pilot unharmed, pilot hospitalised with spinal injuries.

One of the worst positions to get an engine failure, during the approach to landing or just after take off. Well done to the pilot. All the best with the recovery process.

Re: Helicopter missed helipad at Ultimate heliport?
I flew ZS-HXG in 2018 on a HEMS contract at FAMG and early 2019 in the Kakamas area for a month standby for a car manufacturer.
It was one of the nicest L3's that I have flown!
Was fitted with air-conditioning.
Hope the pilot recovers quick!

It always amuses me how those who don’t have air conditioning in their airie always say that you don’t really need it, for this or another reason.
I suppose during your operations in Kakamas you were very grateful that this ship did have it.
