Rainier,

My offer to buy shares (made years ago) still stands! :D You can do the designing and building, I will do the selling!

Whirly.
I do remember that.
MGL is a bit of a strange case though (mostly due to me I suppose). We are sitting a bit out of the way here in SA which does have its advantages but also a lot of disadvantages. Around 15 years ago things started taking off pretty much like the proverbial rocket for MGL and that caused a problem. We were working flat out trying to climb a hill in a fog not realizing the peak was getting higher faster than we could climb.
We (well, "I") am not a "business" orientated person at all (I have been called an "electronic hippie" once). Anyway the decision was made to keep it manageable and since that day we have not taken on any new distribution channels and are strictly limiting supply to keep things sunny side up. That does not stop me from designing new products (keeps me busy and interested). So in the SA context we don't have to worry about BEE and all that goes with it (we sell almost everything we make in other countries) - and should things go pear shaped here we can likely up and go and take MGL on a DVD or two with us.

So that should show that it is difficult to buy shares in MGL - we don't actually want to make more money as odd as that may sound to many. There have been several approaches over the years to take MGL "to the next step" which usually means "setup in the USA or Canada" by investors of one sort or another. I have looked at any offers of course (not too serious I have to add). Yes it is very true that MGL is likely operating at a tiny fraction of its potential but this is intentional. I happen to like it here in SA an as long as it remains possible (and nobody manages to change my mind) MGL stays here too and I will keep dreaming up new stuff to design and make. It's my hobby. I don't work. I just hobby hard.
Awesome......

Rainier
Would it be possible (as far as the regulations go)
To install bits of your avionics, map displays specifically, in my C210
I have 2 Garmin G5’s, a G430W and a GTX335 with ADS-B out on 1090
The only nav display in on the 430 screen which is quite small.
A nice map would be nice
Oh
I also have a Goodrich stormscope that displays on the 430
Thanks for awesome products

I have lost a bit of touch as to exactly what regulations are applied in SA (or not depending on the phase of the moon). Usually a mod-form is/was required but since that requires somebody at CAA to make a decision it seems the solution was to ask for an STC instead (and hope you would just go away). Having said that - many seem to manage and get some or other bits and pieces installed - it seems this depends mostly on the AMO doing the work and his contacts in the hallowed halls of the CAA.
There is a lot of loosening up on fitting non-certified avionics in GA in many countries - we'll have to see what happens here - if anything.

With a mod-form it used to be a fairly simple procedure - as long as you could document to the satisfaction of the CAA that your aerie was not going to fall out of the sky in a burning ball of flame it was duly stamped and signed. Of late CAA would like you to show a STC just to change your radio to something that does not run on valves. Not sure if that (somewhat ridiculous) phase has changed into something more realistic.

One simple way that does not involve the CAA is if your equipment is "portable", i.e. does not have a permanent connection to your aircraft. So with the MX1 that would mean no engine monitoring and connections to fancy gadgets - but since it needs only power (which you can supply via a plug) and the GPS antenna can be mounted so it is removable fairly easily - you still end up with a useful instrument. Get a little more inventive and use some simple pneumatic connectors and you can claim your pilot and static connection is quite temporary as well. At that point in time you can use most of what the MX1 has to offer without having to involve the CAA. The point where a portable becomes a fixed installation is somewhat vague and open to interpretation so you will get different answers here.
Who said the sky is the limit ? I think not.

Rainier,

Will there be enough space at the top of the MX1 display to show : VHF1, VHF2, Transponder, Audio Panel and GPS? :?

Sort of if you make a custom screen design and use the smaller versions of the status displays. If you look at the default screens (posted at the beginning of this thread) you see the larger status items. That's good enough for the two VHF, transponder and the rather large NAV (which you could ditch). The Audio panel status is a graphic showing the most important states as colored fields - once you touch it it opens up into a large control with all the details. The status will also go bonkers if there is an incoming call from your phone (assuming you paired it via Blueteeth). You then touch it and the big control comes up and you can decide to accept or reject the call. You can also block calls if you are to busy to get distracted and can even have this happen automatically based on your vertical speed (assuming that if you are busy changing altitude you are not in the mood to accept a call - you might be busy landing or in your case performing the miracle of not breaking something that shouldn't be flying in the first place

That's not an insult - that's praise. You have to be "of high skill" not to break one of those things (hence "miracle"). I'd break one on the first attempt I recon.

Santa visited you nice and early. Great shopping basket there. I still have a few months before I can upgrade, but I have the same items on the list.

I'm tempted to get a Vega to run the radio and free up some screen real estate on the MX1.

Question tho, cant the MX1 do the job of the A16?
No. You can use either the MX1 or Razor head unit to interface with the A16. The MX1 cannot do it on its own.

I realised my question was asked of the wrong piece of kit. I was thinking radio not intercom.
